If are a fan of NCAA college basketball, this song probably sounds familiar since it's typically played by CBS as the nets are cut down after the national championship game. Although the original was written and performed by David Barrett, many artists have covered it over the years including Teddy Pendergrass and Luther Vandross. Jennifer is expected to perform her own rendition of the song live for tonight's national championship game, but this is the studio version.

This collaboration was a real gem, and it's too bad it was tucked away on the obscure "Hav Plenty" soundtrack put together by Babyface. On of my favorite songs by Jon B., I could have definitely heard this on the radio under different circumstances.

Former City High lead singer Claudette Ortiz continues her comeback with this new song "Simply Amazing" produced by Stargate. After marrying her former group member Ryan and having a child, she is looking to re-emerge with a solo album later this year. What's interesting is, she also had a relationship with the other group member Robbie, and he claims it was her who led him to alcohol abuse by breaking up with him. Eventually, there was a show based around his abuse on A&E called "Intervention;" the whole thing was pretty sad.

Classic Vibe: Lil' Mo "Superwoman" featuring Fabolous

After seemingly appearing on and giving a hook to every hip hop album that released in the the period between 1999 and 2001 (along with Nate Dogg or Carl Thomas), Lil' Mo finally made a name for herself with a first big single of her own "Superwoman." Mo was originally signed to Missy Elliot's Goldmind record label but was on the path to suffering the same fate as many of the other artists on the label; never coming out. Eventually, she signed a new deal with Elektra and released two albums there before relocating to Koch. She is currently working out a new album called "Tattoos & Roses" due for release later this year.

I think it might be just about time to remove the "of 112" stigma from his name. With the news that recently came out that Slim has decided not to rejoin the group in their comeback, for now this all but ensures he's a solo artist for good. That might necessarily be a bad thing though, since his solo debut album was decent. "Smooth Route" is a song I really like from him too. If Slim is able to focus on singing and stays away from trying to make commercial hits, he's going to be successful in my eyes.

Classic Vibe: Aaron Hall "Don't Be Afraid" (1992)

When you think of the New Jack Swing era of R&B, not only do you think of its founder Teddy Riley, but you think of the groups he fostered such as Guy. Although he came to prominence through the group, Aaron Hall was also very successful as a solo artist where he achieved his only number 1 hit with "Don't Be Afraid." The song was featured on the soundtrack to "Juice" and then later on his debut solo album "The Truth" back in 1992. After coming back together to make an album in 1999, Guy currently has no future plans of making another album together.

New Joint: Tank "No Way"

Tank "No Way"

It's always a good day when a new Tank song comes out! Is it a demo? Is it for his new album? It's sometimes hard to tell with big time writers like Tank, but in the meantime we can only hope "Now or Never" comes soon. If you hadn't heard, the project was renamed from "Sex Love & Pain II: The All Night Experience." According to his Facebook page, the album is due out this summer.

As I mentioned yesterday when the song first leaked, I REALLY like it. This is the first single for the soundtrack to her new movie "Why Did I Get Married Too" which is in theaters today.

Classic Vibe: Nate Dogg "Never Leave Me Alone" featuring Snoop Dogg (1996)

While it's easy to discount Nate Dogg as a solo artist because he's been on so many major hits as a feature, to his credit he has released three albums of his own over the years. If you were unaware of this, I can't say I blame you because those releases failed to make much of an impact and remain obscure today. This is my favorite single that Nate Dogg put out called "Never Leave Me Alone" from his debut album "G-Funk Classics, Vol. 1: Ghetto Preacher" in 1997. As you can see, it's an obvious change from the hardcore style lyrical content he sang on most of his guest appearances.

For those not familiar with Tyler Woods, let me introduce you:

Amongst a musical realm of cliché lyrics and gimmicky artistry a new R&B superstar is on the rise to rebirth the art once known as soul music. Raised in Raleigh, NC the second of three children, Tyler and his older brother would often join their father (a collegiate musical professor) at his workplace. This is where he learned how to play over 10 musical instruments. Tyler’s ability to compose music stemmed from his mother (an English teacher). His drive is what skilled him as a musical composer and vocal arranger. While attending high school Tyler caught the attention of his peers while performing at various talent shows. Despite to his parent’s dismay Tyler relocated to Europe in pursuit of his music career. After gaining moderate success overseas with his musical group N’trigue Tyler returned to the states. Upon his arrival a newly motivated Tyler quickly gained the attention of 102 Jams, popular radio station in Greensboro, NC. With his hit single “Maybelline Lady” in heavy rotation at the station Tyler quickly gained local popularity. This garnered the attention of Grammy Award winning producer 9th Wonder. Who in-turn, signed Tyler to Jamala Records. This prompted Tyler’s feature vocals on songs for many artists including: Styles P, Talib Kweli, Buckshot, Chink Santana, Lloyd, Marc Dorsey, Living Color and Bink. Tyler’s guitar skills can be heard on tracks for Floetry, Kelis and Nicole Ray. While not recording Tyler is busy writing, arraigning, producing, engineering and scoring music for himself and other artists. He also gives vocal and adlib lessons to local talent in North Carolina. Tyler’s soulful voice is quickly catching the ears of musical lovers all-over. With Tyler Woods the true essence of R&B and soul music will never be mislead nor forgotten.

Classic Vibe: LL Cool J "Hey Lover" featuring Boyz II Men (1995)

It doesn't happen often when I hear a song. But for me, this song was "love at first listen" and since then I could play it on repeat endlessly and never get tired. I can't really put my finger what it is about it, maybe it was how the Trackmasters perfectly flipped Michael Jackson's "Lady in my Life" beat which is another song I'm a huge fan of. The song would become a huge success for LL, winning him a Grammy award and reaching number three on the Billboard Top 100. I'm not sure if his last album "Exit 13" will be his last, but he seems to be focusing on his acting career these days, currently starring in "NCIS."
