New Joint: Nicole Wray "Listen to Your Heart"

Nicole Wray "Listen to Your Heart"

New song from Nicole Wray that she posted on her Twitter. After one listen, it sounds pretty good, so definitely check this one out.

YouKnowIGotSoul Interview With Sincere from Sintainment Promotions + Reminder "All The Things Your Man Won't Do Concert" March 6th Hartford, CT

Sincere Interview

I had a chance to speak with Sincere of Sintainment Promotions who is putting on the "All The Things Your Man Won't Do" Concert March 6th in Hartford, CT. He touched on everything from how he started the company, to the meaning of bringing real r&b music to an area that doesn't get much of that, to what concerts to expect in the future from his company. Major props to Sincere for bringing this show to Hartford, CT.

Lost Souls: Guru "Hustlin Daze" featuring Donell Jones & Guru "Guidance" featuring Amel Larrieux

Guru "Guidance" featuring Amel Larrieux

This is in tribute to Guru and wishing him a speedy recovery from his recent heart attack. Even if you aren't a fan of classic hip hop and don't know him from his time in legendary group Gangstarr, you may know him from the Jazzmatazz series of albums he released. While the first two in the series featured more of a jazz sounds, volume three brought an all star cast of r&b and soul artists. Although it's not easy to choose since it's such a solid album, here are two of my favorites.

Classic Vibe: Gangstarr "Words I Manifest" (1989)

Rare Gem: Usher "Sweet Lies" featuring Vanessa Marquez

Usher "Sweet Lies" featuring Vanessa Marquez

This Neptunes produced track was released only on the UK Version of the "My Boo" single. Although his 2004 "Confessions" album was jam packed with good songs, I'm sure they could have found a spot on there for this one, especially since they re-released a deluxe version of the album. Vanessa was signed to Star Trak at the time, and it's safe to assume the Neptunes brought her along to lend vocals for this track when producing it.

New Joints: Justin Bieber "Never Let You Go" & Johnta Austin "Never Let You Go" (Justin Bieber Demo)

Johnta Austin "Never Let You Go" (Justin Bieber Demo)

If you are reading this right now, that means you didn't get scared off by me posting a Justin Bieber song! I know, it's an outrage, in fact I'm a little shocked myself. However, I have good reason! Since we also have the demo version of the track for comparison purposes, it's always interesting to take a listen to both side by side. I probably won't ever post another track by Bieber, but just the fact that he worked with Johnta Austin and Bryan Michael Cox this early in his career shows how big he is already. What do you think of both?

Classic Vibe: Maxwell "Suitelady (The Proposal Jam)" (1996)

The second Classic Vibe is from Maxwell's debut album "Urban Hang Suite." (The version I posted is from his Unplugged album). That whole album lyrically went through the cycle of an adult romance, and "Suitelady" is pretty much the conclusion to the whole story (also the 2nd to last song on the album). Maxwell returned from a long hiatus last year with BLACKsummers'night which was a huge success.

Shout out to Ms Music Lover for today's picks!

Classic Vibe: Faith Evans "I Love You" (2001)

Even though the Artist Faceoff is not yet completed, since we are taking a day off from it today I decided to go back to a traditional Classic Vibe format. Up first, the biggest hit from Faith Evans 2001 album "Faithfully." The song was actually written by Jennifer Lopez of all people. Although the album was very solid, it really suffered commercially due to poor promotion from Bad Boy (what else is new).

Shout out to Ms Music Lover for today's picks!

New Joints: Usher "Lingerie" & "Somebody to Love"

Usher "Lingerie"

Usher "Somebody to Love"

As much as I've hated on most of the songs that Usher has leaked over the past few months, here are two I like. Unfortunately, neither of these will be included on his upcoming "Raymond vs. Raymond" album which will be released later this month. I think part of the reason I wasn't feeling the songs he has been releasing is that he was trying to do too much and forgetting what made him so successful. While these two uptempo jams aren't groundbreaking or major hit material, they are fun and catchy tracks that even I can enjoy.
